グローバル・サステナブル・ツーリズム協議会 (GSTC®) は、GSTC スタンダードとして知られている持続可能なグルーバルスタンダードを策定・管理している団体である。また、持続可能な観光における認証のための保証枠組みも提供している。GSTCはレインフォレスト・アライアンス（Rainforest Alliance）、国連環境計画（United Nations Environment UNEP）、国連財団（UN Foundation）、国連世界観光機関（UNWTO、現UN Tourism）を主とした32のパートナー団体からなる連合体として2007年に結成された。持続可能な観光慣行についての理解を深め、ユニバーサルで持続可能な観光原則を取り入れ、促進していく事を目的としている。

グローバル・サステナブル・ツーリズム協議会 (GSTC®) は、GSTC スタンダードとして知られている持続可能なグルーバルスタンダードを策定・管理している団体である。GSTCの4つのスタンダード：公共政策立案者やデスティネーション・マネージャー向けの「地域向けスタンダード」、ホテルやツアーオペレーター向けの「観光産業界向けスタンダード」、会場、イベント主催者、イベントおよび展示会向けの「MICE スタンダード」と、テーマパーク、博物館、国立公園向けの「アトラクションスタンダード」がある。これらのスタンダードは、観光における持続可能性に関する共通言語を開発するための世界的な取り組みから生まれたものである。スタンダードは、A）持続可能なマネジメント、（B）社会経済への影響、（C）文化への影響、（D）環境への影響、の4つの柱で構成される。
また、地域にはそれぞれ文化、環境、習慣、法律があるため、基準は現地のそれぞれの状況に適応できるように作られており、特定の場所や活動に対する追加基準で補う事ができるように設計されている。
GSTCスタンダードは、ホテル／宿泊施設、ツアーオペレーター、地域の持続可能な取り組みについて認証を行う認証機関への認定基盤を形成している。GSTCは、直接事業者や地域に対しての認証は行わないが、認証機関を「認定」するプログラムを提供しています。

補足情報
GSTCは独立した中立の組織で、米国で非営利団体（501(c)3）として法的に登録されています。持続可能な観光におけるベストプラクティス達成に向けて努力している国や地方政府、大手旅行会社、ホテル、ツアーオペレーター、NGO、個人、コミュニティなど多様でグローバルな会員に支えられて活動を行っている国際非営利団体です。実際の本部事務所を持たないバーチャルな組織であり、6つの大陸にスタッフやボランティアがいます。寄付、スポンサーシップ、会費などの財政的支援により、低予算でのサービス提供、GSTCスタンダードの作成、改訂、公開をすることが可能になっています。また、GSTCはISEALのコミュニティメンバーです。

承認=企業/団体/組織が持つ独自基準がスタンダードと同等であることをGSTCが検証する（‘認証‘ではありません。’基準’自体の適合性を検証するのみであり、その認証プロセスを検証するものではありません。）
